What is Nomster Chef?

Short answer: a website with recipe picture books for kids age 2-12 and their grown-ups. Learn more about the recipes here, why we think cooking with kids is awesome here, and more about the company here.

Is Nomster Chef right for my family?

What age is Nomster Chef for?

Age 2 - 12. Younger kids need more grown-up help and do better with shorter cook times; older kids can work more independently and handle longer recipes. Beginner grown-up chefs might like our recipes too!

What about knives, hot stoves, salmonella (etc.)?

All grown-up only steps (involving the stove and sharp knives) are clearly marked. Many ingredients in our recipes can be safely cut with a butter knife or a plastic child’s chef knife. Any recipe steps involving raw meat or eggs have “Germ Alerts” that remind kids not to lick their fingers and to wash their hands.

I'm international- is this for me?

Yes! With the caveat that all recipes are in American English (so "zucchini" and other vocabulary words might confuse you) and have Imperial measurements (so you might have to do a few conversions). But we welcome our international friends!

MY FAMILY IS VEGAN/VEGETARIAN/KOSHER/HALAL AND HAS A PEANUT/GLUTEN/SOY/DAIRY ALLERGY. IS THIS FOR ME?

Yes! While not every recipe can cater to every dietary need, we have multiple recipes suitable for everyone. You can filter our recipes by the 8 major allergens as well as "gluten-free," "vegetarian," and "vegan." We also suggest substitutes for many ingredients to help accommodate as many special dietary needs as possible.

We do not specifically label recipes as Paleo, Whole30, Keto, etc., but several of our recipes work for these diets as well.

What types of recipes are in the library?

We have a mix of breakfast, lunch, snack, and dessert recipes. We also have a mix of recipes that take as short as 15 minutes, as well as full meals that take 45-60 minutes. Check out our illustrated recipes here. Looking for more ideas? We also have a bunch of non-illustrated recipes for kid chefs on our blog.

What makes Nomster recipe picture books different than any other recipes on Google, Pinterest, YouTube, etc.?

A lot! Our recipes are fully illustrated, which means that each and every step of the recipe has a corresponding picture. The recipes are also led by Nate Nomster and his parents, and kids tell us that they feel like they're cooking with Nate Nomster! With the illustrations and Nate Nomster acting as a host, kids stay engaged throughout the entire recipe. Also, lots of "learning moments" are sprinkled throughout the recipe steps. This means that your kid chef is not only learning culinary skills, she is learning about food culture, how food grows, nutrition, and more. Recipes introduce kids to literacy, math, and science skills as well.

Additionally, we take the guesswork out of cooking with kids. Each of our recipes is tested by our recipe tester families to make sure they're fun for kids and yummy to eat! Our team also includes educational and nutrition experts that give their seal of approval on recipes. Our recipe development process makes it as easy as possible for grown-ups to cook with kids. And we never include ads in our illustrated recipes, so no worries there!

Technology

is nomster chef an app?

Nope, the illustrated recipes are located on the website and are flipped through like an e-book.

Do I need a certain device to use the recipes?

Nope, you just need any internet-capable device and a WiFi connection. Recipes do look better on bigger screens like tablets or laptops, but phones work too! We recommend using tablets if possible because of their bigger screens and lack of keyboards (which invite spills while cooking).

Can I download the recipes to Keep?

Not at this time.
