Blueberry Cinnamon Overnight Oats

Serves 1 for Breakfast

15 minutes + overnight resting time

(make the day before you want to eat)

The rundown:

  1. You'll combine all the ingredients
  2. Then place it in the fridge where it will sit overnight
  3. Then eat the next morning!

allergies and dietary restrictions:

  • Vegetarian, gluten free
  • Can be made vegan and dairy-free (see below)

substitutions:

  • Almond allergy: substitute regular cow milk or soy milk for almond milk
  • Dairy: use ¾ cup almond milk, leave out yogurt
  • Vegan: leave out honey and yogurt, use ¾ cup almond milk

Grown-up Pro Tip

  • This makes one serving of overnight oats. To feed more family members, just make an assembly line of mason jars/bowls for as many servings as you need

Shopping List

  • Rolled oats (look for “old-fashioned oats” or “rolled oats”, instant oatmeal or steel-cut oats won’t work, you’ll need ½ cup)

  • Almond milk (or other milk of your choice, you’ll need 1 cup)

  • Plain greek yogurt (you’ll use ½ cup)

  • Vanilla extract

  • Cinnamon

  • Honey

  • Chia seeds (you’ll need 1 TBSP)

  • Fresh blueberries (you’ll use half of a 6 oz package)

Special Tools

  • None! (Though Mason Jars do look pretty cute, tupperware also works)

Ready to cook? Instructions below

  • Wash hands

  • Collect ingredients

    • Rolled oats

    • Almond milk

    • Greek yogurt

    • Vanilla extract

    • Cinnamon

    • Honey

    • Chia seeds

    • Blueberries

  • Collect tools

    • Medium bowl

    • ½ cup measuring cup

    • Liquid measuring cup

    • Measuring spoons (½ teaspoon, ¼ teaspoon, tablespoon)

    • Spoon

    • Mason jar (optional, for overnight storage)

  • Measure ½ cup rolled oats

    • Pour into a medium bowl

  • Measure ½ cup almond milk

    • Use a liquid measuring cup

    • Pour into same bowl

  • Measure ½ cup greek yogurt

    • Spoon into measuring cup

    • Use spoon to scrape out into the bowl

  • Measure ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

    • Pour into same bowl

  • Measure ¼ teaspoon cinnamon

    • Pour into same bowl

  • Smell the cinnamon. Mmmm!

  • Stir with a spoon

  • Measure 1 tablespoon chia seeds

    • Pour into same bowl

    • Taste the chia seeds. What do they taste like?

  • Measure 1 tablespoon honey

    • Pour into bowl

  • Add blueberries

    • Wash package of blueberries

    • Measure ½ cup blueberries, pour into same bowl

  • Stir again

  • Store overnight

    • Grownup: Carefully spoon into a mason jar, or keep it in the bowl and cover with plastic wrap.

    • Put it in the fridge.

  • Clean up

  • Go to sleep!

    • Let it sit overnight in the fridge.
